You Can Die Crying
Or laughing.
According to the canonical story, from the sutras, or the official collection of the Buddha’s teaching, he was not laughing when he died. He asked if the monks who surrounded him as he died had any questions, but they did not. He told them, “Strive for your own liberation with diligence,” which we can understand as the injunction to sustain a consistent meditation practice, as the Buddha himself did.
