We already knew this, but Republicans have admitted it recently, although apparently inadvertently.

Two stories that have had news coverage recently illustrate the point. The less notorious story involved a local official in Tennessee who complained about a “queer running for president,” referring, no doubt, to Pete Buttigieg, the openly gay man running for the Democratic nomination for president. Mr. Hurst, the local official, complained, in his best Trumpian English, “I’m not prejudiced, a white male in this country has very few rights and they’re getting took more every day.”
