Historians know that all events are heavily over determined, meaning that they have multiple causes. This is not different from the Buddha’s point about causes and conditions.

But some causes are more important than others. The best explanation for rebirth in the Buddhist framework is not that any discrete individual gets reborn. No such exists according to the Buddha.
