Heaven Has an Address

Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion

Heaven’s address is my address. Heaven’s address is your address, or it could be.

I rolled out onto my porch last night, as is my wont, and closed my eyes. I suddenly realized that I am in heaven. “Heaven” is really not the best word for it, since it is a distinctively Christian image of a place that is very exclusive, that only admits some people.

“Bliss” might be better. “Bliss” is a state of mind, which is really all heaven ever is or was. Anyone can realize bliss. All you need is a consistent meditation practice.

It won’t happen over night. I’ve been meditating pretty consistently for nearly 18 years now.

Buddhism is very egalitarian. Anyone can find bliss, or Buddhist heaven. There are no gates at Buddhist heaven. Just walk in and pick a cloud.

But you do have to do the work. There is no savior. You have to save yourself.

Practice generosity, adhere to the five precepts, and meditate daily. It’s not that hard. But the reward is infinite peace. Well worth the effort.

So, keep meditating.
