The Buddha

Forgive. Forgive yourself. Forgive your parents. Forgive your teachers. Forgive Donald Trump.

Forgiveness is all about you, not at all about whoever you forgive. There are people who are stuck in situations where they can constantly remind the people they are angry at of their anger.

But the Buddha was very clear about anger. He said that being angry at someone is like picking up a very hot rock to throw at the other person. You will hurt yourself by picking up the rock, but do little, if any harm to the other person by throwing the rock at them.

For the most part, anyone you refuse to forgive has no idea that you harbor a grudge against them. They may not care if they do know. Refusing to forgive is like anger — all you do is hurt yourself.

So forgive everyone, especially yourself.
