Don’t Open the Door for ICE

Know your rights

Rights stop government from doing certain things. The First Amendment starts with “Congress shall make no law….”

The Amendment that matters most if ICE shows up at your door is the Fourth Amendment, which reads, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Derechos para todos

Note, it says, “the people,” so it applies to everyone. Your citizenship status or identity is irrelevant. No police officer of any description may just go door to door anywhere looking for anything. To enter your home, they have to have a warrant identifying your home with your address and stating what they’re looking for.

NOT a Search Warrant

A warrant like this does not qualify. If an ICE agent knocks on your door and shows you one of these, do not let them in.

You have rights. Stand up for them. Do not let ICE agents tell you differently. They do not care about you. They do not have your best interests at heart. Be suspicious. Do not sign anything. Do not open the door for them. Do not let them into your home. Call a lawyer.
