Donald Trump, Buddhist Teacher

2 min readJul 22, 2025

It might seem that Donald Trump would be the last person anyone would look to for teaching about the Buddhist path.

But he is an excellent case study in how not to behave on the Buddhist path.

He is also a fascinating example of karma at work. One sort of has to feel a bit sorry for him that his karma put him in the lifetime he is curently living. The spoiled son of rich parents, he is psychologically three years od at the chronological age of 79. He expects to get whatever he wants the moment he wants it, in the manner of a toddler.

From a Buddhist perspective, Trump is just a hugely inflated ego, which is the problem. People on the Buddhist path want to minimize the influence of our egos on how we act. Trump acts as purely out of ego as is humanly possible, or so it seems.

For people on the Buddhist path, the hazard is obvious. He is vain and hugely selfish. He exhibits zero regard for any other persons. He demands absolute loyalty from friends and subordinates, but abandons them wiithout hesitation if he sees some advantage in doing so. He is cruel.

Trump has no qualities that anyone on the Buddhist path would want to emulate.

Trump makes life easy for those of us on the Buddhist path. In addition to maintaining our consistent meditation practice, we can just look at Trump and do the opposite of whatever he is doing.
