Recall that the Buddha identified six senses, the five we think of, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, plus mind as a separate sense that perceives thoughts. I like to think of mind as sort of a meta sense in that, in addition to perceiving thoughts, it is also the faculty that puts the inputs from the other five senses together.
