Buddhism should be simple. Buddhist meditation should be simple.
Buddhism often is not simple.
We have no reason to think that anyone is trying to make Buddhism complicated.
The Buddha’s basic message is pretty simple:

Or, every person’s awakening is different.
Your enlightenment is not the Buddha’s enlightenment.
My enlightenment is not your enlightenment.
My enlightenment was a marvelous opening in my heart center and spine, like having a beautiful beach house open, always available for me to relax in, entirely secure, quiet, and peaceful. My spine is the beach.
But, as far as anyone knows, however idiosyncratic your awakening may be when it happens, the best way to get to it is to meditate.
So keep meditating until your enlightenment occurs.
